Monkey Island 14’ Skiff

Our story began with a client looking for a sturdy, inexpensive skiff for digging for quahogs. His inspiration was the well-known Lumberyard Skiff. Per the client’s request, we shortened the design to 14’ (the maximum length for a boat before it needs to be registered in Rhode Island). We kept the freeboard high for stability while leaning on the rail. We revised the stem profile and flair up forward. Two thwarts. Oak structural members, cedar planking, and a fiberglassed marine plywood bottom for durability. Named after an island in Padanaram Harbor, the result is a design that lends itself to customization and is efficient to build. Rugged, good-looking and affordable.
